This post will guide you How to Install Lineage OS on an Android phone or Tablet by using TWRP or any other custom Recovery. Here I will be sharing all the necessary steps, download links or files to install a Lineage OS On any Android device using a TWRP recovery.

How to Install Lineage OS on Android

    WHAT IS LINEAGE OS?

Lineage OS is a custom Android Firmware and is a continuation work of CyanogenMod (meaning, Lineage OS is CyanogenMod from inside out). Many OEM manufactured devices usually come with AOSP (The Android Open Source Project) Android ROMs. This not always true. OEMs like: Samsung which has TouchWiz UI, HTC which has Sense UI, Xiaomi which has MIUI etc. The AOSP is the vanilla version of Android which is released to each OEM where they integrate their own changes or features or basically called as customizations on top of the Vanilla Android and customizes the actual AOSP ROM. CyanogenMod was the biggest Custom ROM and so the Lineage OS is, which is developed by the Developer Community (thousands of developers across the globe). Basically Lineage OS can give your phone the latest Android available till date (provided, some developer ports it for your device).

In addition to the latest Android update, Lineage OS gives you many added features which the OEM’s stock ROMs does not have and sometimes even Google’s AOSP also lacks those features. For example: The dictionary feature on Android came around 4.3 (I don’t remember exactly when) but I had been using the same feature in CyanogenMod since Android 2.3. Just imagine how much the CyanogenMod custom ROM is ahead of even Google in terms of feature packing.

DOWNLOADS AND REFERENCE LINKS FOR THIS LINEAGE OS INSTALL GUIDE:

HOW TO INSTALL LINEAGE OS ON ANY ANDROID PHONE:

    Step By Step Guide.

    1. Download and copy the Lineage OS ROM to your phone.
    2. Now Boot your Android device into TWRP recovery (make sure you have installed a TWRP or any other custom recovery on your phone prior to this)

You may power off and press the appropriate key combination for your phone to boot into recovery mode.
Also you can execute the following command on a Command Console or a terminal:

      $ adb reboot recovery

      – this command requires ADB binaries to be installed on your PC
      – USB drivers for your phone
USB debugging must be enabled on your phone

    3. Then Just Select Install from TWRP home screen, then navigate to the directory where you have kept the Custom ROM zip file and then select the Lineage OS ROM file and slide the Swipe to Confirm Flash on TWRP screen to start the Lineage OS installation on your phone.
    4. Wait for TWRP to flash the Lineage OS completely. Once the flashing is done, you may reboot your device.
      – before rebooting the device you may have to install the Lineage OS GApps on top of the Lineage OS ROM
    5. Profit!!! Your Android device will have the Lineage OS ROM installed. ENJOY.

If you have any concerns or any difficulties on this guide then feel free to place a reply on this thread to get instant help.

Android is built on top of Linux kernel which has something called as superuser privileges. Android ROOTING is nothing but getting the Superuser privilege. With the ROOTING privilege there is some Advantage and disadvantage associated. With this post I bring you some of the advantage and disadvantage of Android ROOTING.

After rooting you can install many android mods such as Google Camera APK, enable navigation gesture, enable face unlock, viper4android etc. and many more.

Advantage and Disadvantage of ROOTING Android Phone

What is the benefit of Rooting your Android phone?

Many Android users don’t even know what is rooting, forget about how to ROOT.
    Well, in a simple statement:

Rooting gives your Android phone, super power and wings to fly.

There are many endless possibilities are opened when you ROOT your Android phone, in this case when you ROOT Android.
Following are few of the benefits of ROOTING an Android Phone:

    1. You can enable Camera2 API which is required (mostly on legacy phones) to install GCam APK on a phone.
    2. You can remove pre-installed junk applications called as bloatware
      – Most of the Android phones come with pre-installed applications by manufacturers such as: Samsung Apps on Samsung phones, Honor Apps on Huawei Honor phones etc.
    3. You can update the phone manually
No need to wait for OTAs to be pushed by your OEM.
    4. After rooting the phone, there is a possibility that you can install incompatible apps which are only available for specific devices.
      – One such example is Google Camera or Xposed modules etc.
    5. Rooting helps you install ad-blocker application phone wide
    6. You can install Custom ROMs like LineageOS, Resurrection Remix OS, OmniROM etc on your Android Phone
      – OEM updates for latest Android releases are pretty much slower as compared to the custom ROMs. Rooting helps you taste the latest Oreo almost as soon as it is released, provided it should be built for the phone by one of the developers.
      – After couple of years when your Android Phone no longer will get Android upgrades, custom ROMs will be the only way to keep the phone updated to the latest Android
    7. You can access to system files after rooting your Android phone
      – Initially when OnePlus 3 was released it was restricted to use the full potential of RAM by using only almost half of the RAM.
      – Unlocking that potential was only possible after rooting the phone and then modifying the system file.
    8. Rooting the Android Phone allows to install more themes, and customization.

What are the risks involved in Rooting?

Rooting is more attractive for above said reasons but there are a handful disadvantages of rooting an Android phone too which you should consider before you root the Android phone.

Let’s see some of the key downfalls of rooting and Android phone:

    1. Phone may not start after flashing either SuperSU zip or following Magisk rooting method.
      – As of now (March 2020) the SuperSU zip is no longer maintained and may cause issues if flashed on newer Android phones (Later to Android Pie).
Magisk is the only ROOT installer package that is up to date with Android 10. If not understood properly and flashed wrongly it may cause bootloop issues.
    2. You may lose warranty
      – Many of the manufacturers now a days supporting software customization on Android phones but on the other hand many OEMs discourage the use of altering software on the phone.
      – Although this can completely reverted back to original state, but still OEMs like Samsung user binary or hardware counters that tells how many times the software has been changed on an Android phone.
    3. You may lose all your data on the phone
      – Rooting a device involves unlocking the phone’s bootloader and installing a custom recovery.
      – This process may erase all the data of your phone.
    4. Rooted Android phones may not pass SafetyNet
      – Android has a security mechanism to know if a device is tempered or can be still reliable for security.
      – Most of the banking apps use SafetyNet as a security measure, which will be broken after rooting the Android phone.
    5. Official OTA updates for your phone will be stopped
      – you have to manually install OTA updates. (This might not be true with all OEMs such as Xiaomi, OnePlus etc.)
      – This is an advantage if you know where to download and how to install stock firmware updates otherwise it is the other way round.
    6. Rooting gives system file access, which is very dangerous.
      – If any of the core system file is missing, the whole Android system is gone, and the Android phone could be bricked.

    8. If you think the bootloader is unlocked, in fact it might not, yet! Read the below section on how to let VaultKeeper unlock Samsung Galaxy phone’s bootloader permanently.

Allow VaultKeeper to Completely Unlock the Bootloader on Samsung Galaxy phone

VaultKeeper, RMM State: prenormal etc. are not new things. They are at least 2 years old from now.

The VaultKeeper is some kind of “thief” protection service that is running on your Samsung Galaxy phone. The VaultKeeper service may try to lock the bootloader again if the following steps are not done immediately after the bootloader unlock on Samsung Galaxy phone.

To make sure that the VaultKeeper fully unlocks the bootloader to allow foreign partition flashing, which is important if you want to flash TWRP or want to ROOT using Magisk etc. then follow the below instructions.

    1. Immediately after the bootloader unlock, the phone will be wiped and restarted automatically.
    2. During the setup, connect the Samsung Galaxy phone to an internet source.
    3. Enable Developer options again!
    4. Confirm that the OEM unlocking option exists and greyed out!

[su_note note_color=”#D7E3F4″ text_color=”#728095″ radius=”3″ class=”” id=””]If the OEM Unlocking option does not show up, then close and open the Settings menu again and again till it reappears.
Just make sure that your phone is connceted to the internet. It is important!
      [/su_note]

[su_note note_color=”#F9D9D9″ text_color=”#AA4343″ radius=”3″ class=”” id=””]Make sure you do not turn off the phone without confirming the OEM Unlocking setting is greyed out![/su_note]

There is something called as VaultKeeper that will try to relock the bootloader after the data wipe.

[su_note note_color=”#FBF4DD” text_color=”#A38C68″ radius=”3″ class=”” id=””]You can consider a backup using Galaxy Smart Switch or any other backup application of your choice.[/su_note]
