Good news for Nexus 6 users as Android Pie 9 for Nexus 6 is now available to download. This is an initial TEST build of Nexus 6 Android Pie AOSP ROM where almost nothing works.

This AOSP build of Android Pie 9 for Nexus 6 is brought to you by Jason Hyunwoo.

HOW TO FLASH/INSTALL ANDROID PIE 9 ON Nexus 6:

Follow this guide if you are flashing Android 9 Pie on Nexus 6 for the first time, or coming from any other ROM of any Android version:

Points to NOTE:
– Try to avoid restoring apps backup using any application such as: Titanium Backup. It may break things up.
– Don’t restore system data using Titanium Backup! It will definitely break the current installation.
– It is also discouraged to Restoring Apps + Data using Titanium Backup.

1. Boot into the TWRP custom Recovery to install this Android 9 Pie for Nexus 6.
   
   – Make sure to have a Custom recovery like a TWRP recovery or any other custom recovery.
   – If not then download the TWRP recovery from Downloads link and follow the TWRP flashing Guide (it’s a generic guide which will work for TWRP or any other recovery)
2. Backup system, vendor, boot, data of your Nexus 6 phone
   
   – How to take complete backup using TWRP
3. Wipe the data partition (or do a factory reset), wipe cache, ART or Dalvik cache and Format the System partition.

   This will delete all your data on your phone. You may consider complete backup of your phone data or take a NANDROID backup of the current ROM

4. Download and Copy the Android Pie GApps and Nexus 6 Android 9 Pie AOSP ROM ZIP files to your phone by using MTP mode in TWRP.
5. Flash the Nexus 6 Android 9 Pie AOSP ROM file that you have copied into the phone.

6. Then flash the Android 9 Pie GApps (Android 9 Pie GApps package).
   
   – Here is a post explaining how to install GApps using TWRP recovery.
7. Reboot and Enjoy the AOSP Android 9 Pie on Nexus 6.

Upgrading from earlier version of Android Pie on Nexus 6 (shamu):

1. Copy the latest Nexus 6 Android 9 Pie ROM ZIP file, Android 9 Pie GApps package to the phone.
2. Boot into TWRP Recovery on Nexus 6.
   – Make sure you have a latest custom Recovery that should be able to flash the AOSP Android Pie on Nexus 6.
3. Format or wipe the system partition from the custom recovery menu.
4. First install the Android 9 Pie ROM ZIP file from device.

5. Reboot and see you have the GApps available or not.
   
   – Gapps is built in such a way that it will sustain across ROM updates.
6. If you don’t have GApps after upgrading the Android 9 Pie on Nexus 6, then flash the Android GApps once again.

7. Once everything is done, reboot and Enjoy the AOSP Android 9 Pie for Nexus 6.

Of course this Android Pie build for Nexus 6 is not stable yet. So, if in case you want to downgrade to Android Oreo then here are some of the options:
