How to install Flowblade in Ubuntu?


Flowblade is free, opens source, multitrack non-linear video editing software for Linux. It provides a stylish and modern interface. The software is written in python and it is designed to be fast and precise. Most of its functionalities are built using the media framework MLT.

In this article, I will discuss how to install Flowblade on a Ubuntu system.

How to install Flowblade in Ubuntu

There are multiple ways to install Flowblade on a Ubuntu system. Follow one of the given methods to install it on your system.

Method 1: Installing Flowblade from Ubuntu repository

The easiest way to install Flowblade is by using the Ubuntu repository. The downside of this method is that the version available may not be the current latest release.

To install the Flowblade from the Ubuntu repository first update the local package database on your system by using –

sudo apt update

Next, use the following command to install Flowblade –

sudo apt install flowblade

If it asks for your confirmation press y and then enter.

Method 2: Installing Flowblade using the deb package

Flowblade offers an official .deb package which is available for download. Visit the Flowblade download page and click on the link to download the .deb package like it is given in the image below.

Once the package is downloaded move to that directory and use the given command to install it.

sudo apt install ./flowblade-2.8.0.2-1_all.deb

Method 3: Installing Flowblade using Flatpak

Flatpak is another way of building, distributing, and running sandboxed desktop applications on a Linux system.

To download the Flowblade Flatpak package first you need to install and configure Flatpak on your system. To install Flatpak open your terminal and execute the given command –

sudo apt install flatpak -y

Next, add the Flathub repository by using the given command –

flatpak remote-add --if-not-exists flathub https://flathub.org/repo/flathub.flatpakrepo

Now use the following commands to install Flowblade Flatpak –

flatpak install --from https://flathub.org/repo/appstream/io.github.jliljebl.Flowblade.flatpakref
flatpak run io.github.jliljebl.Flowblade

Start Flowblade in Ubuntu

After the installation of Flowblade on your system you can launch it from the activity dashboard. Search Flowblade and when an icon appears like given in the image below click on it to launch the application.
