How To Record Video Using The Wide-Angle Lens on OnePlus 7 Pro

Gaming Laptop Series

OnePlus 7 Pro is a beast of a smartphone. Many users including top tech giants as well as YouTubers have declared his phone the best smartphone of the first half of 2019.

Moreover, you cannot go wrong with such top of the line, advanced and fast specifications on the phone. Besides, what was more interesting was the implementation of the Pop-up selfie camera!

Yes, there is a certain drawback of having a pop-up camera or any motorized part on the device. For instance, you straightaway lose the waterproof protection, your device is no longer dustproof, and the most important one, your smartphone is vulnerable to extra damages.

But, in this post, I have a workaround for the camera lovers of the OnePlus 7 Pro. Yes, the camera module is great on the OnePlus 7 Pro and you can take brilliant shots with all the three lenses.

However, there is one thing that I always wanted on my device is the wide-angle video recording. Don’t get me wrong here, I know there is a wide-angle camera on the OnePlus 7 Pro but, it does not allow you to take wide-angle video footage or recording.

You can always install a working port of GCam on the OnePlus 7 Pro to get this done, otherwise you can try the below mod!

But, worry not, as I have a solution for it. So, in this article, we will look at how to record video using the wide-angle lens on OnePlus 7 Pro. So, without further ado, let us get straight into the article itself;

OnePlus 7 Pro

Specs Review

OnePlus 7 Pro is the premium flagship of 2019 by OnePlus company. It has a little sibling OnePlus 7 too. Under the hood, the OnePlus 7 Pro is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 chipset which is the 7-nanometer chipset. It comes in three variants i.e. 6GB/8GB/12GB of RAM. Similarly, the device storage capacity also varies with the RAM as you get 8/12GB of RAM paired with 256GB of storage or the standard version of the device which packs 6GB of RAM with 128GB of storage. The GPU used in the OnePlus 7 Pro is the Adreno 640 which is blazingly fast.

The device has a 6.67-inch display with a bezel-less design and Fluid AMOLED. The Screen comes with a protection of Corning Gorilla Glass 5. What is more interesting and my most favorite feature of the device is the 90Hz Screen Refresh Rate. With this, you get buttery smooth interactions with the display and you can actually feel the power of this device. It is running the Android 9 Pie and the best part of buying a OnePLus device is that the update starts rolling pretty soon and the OnePlus 7 Pro has already received an update regarding some fixes and new features.

However, the main focal point of this post is the camera sensors on the OnePlus 7 Pro. You get a triple layer set-up on the rear with 48MP + 8MP + 16 MP shooters and in the front you get the 16MP motorized pop-up selfie camera. Out of the three lenses, we will be using the 16MP one, which is the ultra wide lens with f/2.2 aperture.

How To Record Video Using The Wide-Angle Lens on OnePlus 7 Pro

The OnePlus 7 Pro’s 16MP ultra-wide lens has a field of view of 117-degrees which is lesser than the current leader, the Sony Xperia 1 which boasts a field of view of 130-degrees. The OnePlus company has already officially given approval for the ultra-wide video recording feature and it will come to the device with the next update. Steps To Enable Ultra-Wide Video Recording

But, as we are tech-enthusiasts, and why wait for the official update when you can use the ultra-wide camera for video recording without the need for root or anything else. Follow the below steps for enabling this feature;

  1. Open the Dialer app on your OnePlus 7 Pro.
  2. Enter *#*#1597#*#* to launch the debugging camera software. (indicated by red text over the camera app)
  3. Go to video recording mode.
  4. Keep switching camera lenses (using the button in the bottom left) until the red text reads Lens: Back (Wide) (3).
  5. Proceed and record the video normally.
  6. Voila! you can now record video in wide-angle mode.

Conclusion

That’s it! Pretty simple right and moreover, you do not need any complex methods or anything to activate this feature. One thing to note is that the video quality will not be as great as you would like it to be as it is not the official way to use the wide-angle lens for video recording. Besides, this might be the very reason why the company has not opted for the ultra-wide angle video recording straight out of the box. However, this is a nice feature and you would love the ultra-wide 117-degree field of view video from your OnePlus 7 Pro.

Please let us know in the comments below if you liked this post and also let us know if you faced any difficulties while following these steps. So, there you have it from my side in this article and until next post, cheers!
